A Journey of Faith
United in Faith, Rooted in Heritage, Guided by Hope
The Vietnamese Catholic Community in Hawaii has a rich history rooted in faith, resilience, and unity. Our journey began in 1975, a pivotal time marked by the arrival of Vietnamese Catholic families who fled their homeland in search of safety and freedom. Under the compassionate guidance of Fr. Joseph Cao Phương Kỷ, the first Vietnamese Catholic chaplain in Hawaii, our community gathered to celebrate Mass in our native language, fostering a sense of belonging amidst challenging times.
Over the years, the leadership of our community passed through the hands of dedicated priests, each contributing to the growth and spiritual development of our parish. In 1982, under the leadership of Fr. John Mai Nghị Luân, our community was officially recognized as a 'Personal Parish' by the local bishop, allowing us to continue practicing our faith and traditions in a place we could call our own.
Our Spiritual Home
Belong. Believe. Become.
Today, we are known as the Vietnamese Catholic Community of the Holy Martyrs of Vietnam, sharing our spiritual home with the Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa in Honolulu. Our community is a vibrant and welcoming place where all are invited to belong, to believe in the teachings of Christ, and to become active participants in our shared journey of faith.
Walking Together in Faith and Love
Honoring Heritage, Building Hope, Living Christ's Presence
In May 2024, we celebrated the ordination of Fr. Anthony Huy-Cuong Tran, who now leads us as our chaplain and parochial vicar. Together, we continue to honor our heritage, deepen our faith, and build a future filled with hope and love, guided by the spirit of the Vietnamese martyrs and the enduring presence of Christ in our lives.
Join us as we walk this journey together, united in faith, and committed to becoming a beacon of hope and love in our community and beyond.
